As you scale up the spiral staircase, you realize that the placard beside the door to this wing of the library did not lie: this is indeed a tower of tomes. With each level there are more books than you can imagine, shelves of books so tall that they never seem to end, disappearing into the heavens above. Standard Ebooks: Like Project Gutenberg, Standard Ebooks hosts ebooks in the public domain, but optimizes them for standard ereaders by reformatting the texts, proofing them, and cleaning up the code. Also open source!
Internet Sacred Text Archive: Houses copies of religious scriptures, folklore, mythology, and the esoteric from all around the world.
Folktexts: Perhaps the internet's oldest and largest repository of fairytales and folktales. There's truly a mind-boggingly amount of stuff on here. One of my favorite parts is how the stories are organized by their archetypes! These shared story beats fascinate me.
Theoi Project: A comprehensive site dedicated to cataloging Greek mythology and its gods. Each figure has their own page with sources and citations. The amount of detail is unmatched!!
Library of Short Stories: A digital library with the aim of preserving short stories online for free and for everyone! Updated frequently.
Smashwords: An online, independent ebook retailer and publisher. There are books you can download for free!
